Sport Awards Dinner 2022

For the first time since 2019, the Sportswomen’s Awards Night was held on Friday 4 November with 320 students and parents in attendance. The college honoured the achievements of our talented sportswomen in Years 7 to 12 who have achieved great success and demonstrated outstanding commitment to their sports throughout 2022.

Guest speakers included Olympians and Pymble Alumni Mackenzie Little and Brittany O’Brien as well as three-time Olympian, Pymble Head Coach – Sprints and mother to Gabriella Taylor (Year 11), Melinda Gainsford-Taylor. They were all so inspirational and it was an absolute pleasure listening to their journeys and words of wisdom.

On the night, 220 students who participate in competitive sports were recognised through several awards which include Athlete of the Year, The Julie Shaw All Rounder of the Year, igsa Team of the Year, Representative Team of the Year, Strive for the Highest Awards, Sports Officials of the Year, Olympic Changemaker Awards, Australian Representatives and Sportswoman of the Year.

The College also acknowledges that not all girls who show excellence and commitment to their sport can be recognised at the awards evening – there are simply too many students who represent the college in sport. For those girls who were not attending the dinner, we recognise and acknowledge your contribution to Pymble and encourage you to continue to strive for your highest in your chosen sport.

On the night, the outstanding contributions from our Deputy Principal, Julie Shaw and Coaching Development Director, Simon Pennington were recognised. The previous All-Rounder Award was renamed The Julie Shaw All-Rounder Award in recognition of her contribution and influence on sport at Pymble. We thank both Julie and Simon and wish them all the best in their new roles in 2023.

I would also like to extend special thanks to our college Principal, Dr Hadwen, and the College Council for supporting our exceptional sport program, and to all the parents and carers who support their daughters in their varied sporting pursuits.

Mrs Katie Edwards
Head of Sport – Year 7 to 12
