IPSHA Team of the Week
This week’s IPSHA Team of The Week goes to IPSHA Cricket Pymble 2 (Year 5) for an outstanding match against Queenwood, placing the team at the top of the table and undefeated after two rounds. Despite most of the students only recently picking up Cricket, their athleticism and enthusiasm was displayed in spades as they showed an amazing ability to work together as a team.
The toss was won by the captain Anika Verma (Year 5), electing to field, and sending Queenwood into bat. Opening the bowling was speedster Georgia Friedel (Year 5), with her quick and fiery action that caused early trouble to the opening batters. This was backed up by Chloe Leanne’s (Year 5) impeccably consistent bowling that bought two wickets to her name. In the field, Polly Hargraves (Year 5) was a standout, saving countless boundaries and putting her body on the line to save a lot of runs. If there was an award for the most energetic player, it would have to go to Marley Titley (Year 5), for always being the loudest on the field and the first to appeal if there was any danger of a wicket. At the end of the innings, the Pymble girls managed to keep Queenwood to 203 runs, taking a massive 12 wickets as well.
All the batting pairs did a commendable job, hitting fours and sixes all around the park, however, the most impressive pair would have to be Charlie Slater (Year 5) and Olivia Hicks-Duncombe (Year 5), who scored 78 runs from their 6 overs, finishing out the game to get Pymble over the line with a score of 5/285 in total. Player of the match goes to Amelia Hanstrum (Year 5) for her tight lines of bowling which brought her three wickets and classy power hitting in the middle overs, utilising the double zone to her advantage. Led by their skipper, Anika Verma (Year 5), the cricketers had a lot of fun whilst also upholding a very high level of skill. A fantastic start to the season with more talent still to come – looking forward to a great season with Pymble 2!
