Performing Arts

I have been pondering recently upon the word “victory”. At times, it is often employed in the recognition of coming first or breaking a record. These achievements are, of course, highly significant, and worthy of every plaudit offered.

In the final term of the year, we witness a range of performing arts events that celebrate students in Music, Dance, Drama, Speech and Drama and Language Arts. The Festival of Speech for Language Arts. Centre Stage for Co-curricular Drama students. Steps in the Sand as a Dance showcase for Co-curricular dance students. Junior and Senior Ensemble concerts for Co-curricular Music students.

I wanted to recognise the individual victories of students in each of these areas. These students may not come first or break a record, but their personal victories in performance can also be profound. All of these students should be recognised and celebrated.

The Festival of Speech was an epic event held at Pymble on 21 and 22 October and involved 27 independent girls’ schools, over 700 hundred students and 400 teachers, families and adjudicators. There were some great achievements across the many events for Pymble girls. Led by the Head of Language Arts, Mrs Bronwyn Hubbard, Pymble students and staff provided a magnificent landscape in which this momentous igsa event triumphed after a three-year hiatus.

We eagerly anticipate the forthcoming Dance Showcase, the Drama Showcase and the Junior and Senior Ensemble Music concerts.

Further information about these events will be provided in the reports below.

I would warmly recommend that you attend one or more of these events and strive to seek out every student who performs on the Gillian Moore Centre of Performing Arts stage and gives her all. Celebrate each girls’ victory.
